Following the recent FISTF tournament held in Melbourne there have been a number of player movements and additions to the FISTF rankings and, of course, the regular WASPA tournaments being held around the country mean that WASPA rankings are always on the move.<\/p>\n
For clarification on how points are awarded, both FISTF and WASPA award points to every player that competes in an event under their umbrella. The better a player does in a tournament, the more points they earn. The larger a tournament, the more points that are on offer as well, so winning a 20 player tournament will earn you more points than winning a 6 player tournament. However, playing in regular tournaments will earn a player points, no matter what how small that might be.<\/p>\n
There are generally only 3 or 4 FISTF tournaments played across the country each year, and these need to be organised to a professional standard. This explains why far fewer players are listed in the FISTF rankings. However, any club or group of players is free to organise a WASPA tournament every month and there is far greater freedom for formats and other organisational procedures here, so most tournaments in Australia fall under this umbrella. WASPA’s aim is to get people playing regularly without the pressures of organisation, so anybody is free to hold one. World ranking points come as an added bonus, to give you a bit of an idea how you might fare on a world, or Australian, scale, from playing regularly with your friends.<\/p>\n
