Peter Thomas stormed home in the second half of last Saturday’s FISTF Satellite to claim another title and confirm his standing as Australia’s No.1 Sports Table Footballer. Benji Batten executed a perfect first half to take a deserved lead into the break before Thomas managed to compose and fight his way back into the contest to secure a 3-1 victory.
The event saw twelve players split into three tightly contested groups with the top two in each progressing through the tournament and those missing out competing in a Plate event.
Undoubtedly the game of the Satellite saw Thomas pushed all the way by Cozzarin in a fabulous Group One encounter. Not to be overawed by his opponent, Frank fought his way back on two occasions in a stirring display before being eventually denied by the tournament’s eventual winner.
In another noticeable achievement, Northern Phoenix TFC saw Beth Eveleigh and Christos Garagounis both make it into the Barrage Round before being pitted against one another – ensuring the club was to have a representative in the lucrative Semi-Final stage of the event.
Luke Radziminski and Benji Batten competed in a closely fought seven goal Semi-Final thriller which ended 3-3 after regulation time before the latter went on to win it in sudden death. Event officials are however still trying to retrieve evidence of a seventh goal actually being scored. Reports of the Polish Predator hastily departing the venue lends credence to the possibility of some ‘dodgy shenanigans’ having been executed. Officials are currently investigating all match-fixing claims.
Nathan Urbaniak secured a 2-0 victory over Adrian Connolly to secure the plate event.
Special mention to both Frank Cozzarin and Mick Phillips for making interstate trips in order to compete in the tournament. Your presence, efforts and overall contribution to the day’s proceedings helped make the day a huge success.
